AIM and SCOPE
The International Journal of Surgical and Medical Research (IJSMR) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to advancing global healthcare through the publication of high-quality, scientifically rigorous research across all areas of surgical practice and clinical medicine. The journal provides an immediate and unrestricted open-access platform for surgeons, physicians, clinical researchers, and allied healthcare professionals to disseminate innovative surgical techniques, translational medical research, and clinically relevant advancements that contribute to improved patient care and health outcomes worldwide.
The scope of IJSMR encompasses a broad range of medical and surgical disciplines. In the field of general and specialized surgery, the journal welcomes contributions in areas such as acute care surgery, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, orthopedic surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, surgical oncology, pediatric surgery, urology, and trauma surgery. The journal also encourages submissions related to minimally invasive and innovative surgical approaches, including laparoscopic techniques, robotic-assisted surgery, bariatric procedures, and evaluations of emerging surgical technologies. In addition, IJSMR considers clinical medicine and therapeutics across specialties such as internal medicine, cardiology, gastroenterology, oncology, neurology, endocrinology, pulmonology, and infectious diseases.
A strong emphasis is also placed on translational and clinical research that bridges laboratory findings with clinical applications. This includes clinical trial protocols, epidemiological studies, diagnostic advancements, imaging innovations, and experimental medicine that contributes to the understanding and treatment of human disease. Furthermore, the journal welcomes work related to surgical education, healthcare systems, medical ethics, public health, surgical training methodologies, and global health policy, particularly studies addressing disparities in surgical care delivery and access.
IJSMR accepts a variety of manuscript types to ensure comprehensive dissemination of scientific knowledge. These include original research articles such as randomized controlled trials, cohort studies, case-control studies, and diagnostic accuracy studies; systematic reviews and meta-analyses conducted in accordance with established reporting guidelines such as PRISMA; narrative reviews addressing emerging clinical topics; case reports that present unique clinical findings, rare conditions, or novel surgical complications with significant educational value; short communications and technical notes describing innovative procedural modifications or preliminary findings; and letters to the editor that provide constructive scientific commentary on previously published work.
The journal’s primary readership consists of practicing surgeons, clinical physicians, medical researchers, surgical trainees, academic faculty, and healthcare policymakers across the globe. IJSMR operates under a continuous publication model, ensuring that articles are published online immediately after successful peer review, copyediting, and final approval. Published articles are subsequently organized into four formal issues per year, providing both rapid dissemination and structured archival organization for indexing and reference purposes.
This Aims and Scope statement is reviewed periodically to ensure alignment with evolving trends in global medical research, clinical practice, and indexing requirements established by international databases such as the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). The editorial board conducts regular assessments to refine subject coverage and maintain relevance to advancements in surgical science and clinical medicine.
